Diving and Supporting Cartagena’s Island Communities & Coral Reefs

OVERVIEW
Calling all divers! This trip is for travelers wanting to scuba dive around Caribbean islands surrounding Cartagena, Colombia, which boast a diverse and healthy reef system and Coral National Park. Water temperatures are always between 80-85 degrees F. Dive sites can include shallow reefs, deep coral walls, shipwrecks, an underwater museum, and sunken art. Divers will also be introduced to initiatives working with local island communities designed to help protect the ocean and educate young people about sustainability practices.

This trip is intended for people who like to dive but also want to explore the culture and history of Cartagena while taking part in a volunteer project as part of the trip.

The total cost of the trip is $2,100 USD. That includes everything listed on the itinerary below with the exception of the additional items indicated. Incidentals and tips are not included. This is a special rate for the first five people to book. After this, the price increases to $2,400.

ITINERARY

Wednesday
-Group arrives
-Private 2 hour walking tour of the city center
-Group dinner in city center
-Group sleeps in accommodation in center

Thursday
-Breakfast at accommodation
-Group leaves Cartagena by boat to dive (2 dives) around Baru and/or Tierra Bomba Islands
-Lunch at Blue Apple Resort on Tierra Bomba Island and presentation of sustainability projects on Tierra Bomba island and Coral Reef Ecosystem around Cartagena
-Afternoon free time at Blue Apple Resort (beach, pool, massages, bar)
-Optional afternoon dive (additional cost), if weather conditions permit
-Dinner at Blue Apple Resort
-Group stays at Blue Apple Resort

Friday
-Breakfast at Blue Apple Resort
-Group travels by boat and dives (2 dives) in sites around Islas de Rosario
-Lunch at hotel on Islas de Rosario
-Afternoon free time at hotel on Islas de Rosario; paddle boarding and snorkeling available if weather conditions permit (additional cost)
-Optional afternoon dive (additional cost), if weather conditions permit
-Return to Blue Apple Resort for dinner and evening
-Optional night dive (additional cost)

Saturday
-Breakfast at Blue Apple Resort
-Volunteer activity centered around the ocean and local communities (will be done with an island community)
-Lunch included after volunteering
-Return to Cartagena by boat and afternoon free time
-Cooking class/Dinner with a focus on local and sustainable cooking
-Group stays in accommodation in the city center

Sunday
-Brunch at a local social enterprise cafe; trip debrief
-Group departs for airport
